About Us

Door County Driver Education was founded in 2018 by Brad and Amy Russell.  The Russells saw a need for a driver education school in the local community. They wanted to teach young adults and adults to become safe, responsible, and respectful drivers.  Amy has leveraged her teaching background to develop an interactive driver education curriculum that keeps the students engaged in the classroom and accountable for their learning.  We work closely with parents, guardians, and teachers to provide challenging and positive driver education experiences.  We are sensitive to each student’s needs and will provide accommodations in the classroom and/or in the car.  We value all students and we are honored that we can be providing Driver Education services.

Thank you for considering Door County Driver Education!

Sincerely,
Brad and Amy Russell

Meet the Team

Mr. Brad Russell

In 2018, my wife, Amy, and I saw the need to have a Driver Education School that was based out of Door County.

After teaching our 10 adopted children how to drive, I was recruited to become a Behind-the-Wheel instructor.  I enjoy the challenge of driving with first-time drivers and teaching driver safety.  For 5 years, I was a Behind-the-Wheel instructor in Iowa.  One of my favorite driving memories is when a first-time student driver got in the driver’s education car and asked me “which pedal do I use?”.  This student ended up being my most improved driver in the class, as well as a joy to drive with.  I fully understand that students will make mistakes during their driving lessons, this is why I am here!

I am currently semi-retired and spend my time substitute teaching – mostly at Sevastopol High School – and managing rental properties.  I am a retired IT Director with 20 years at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and 10 years with Pearson – an education assessment company.   I received my undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from UW-Eau Claire, as well as an MBA from the University of Iowa.  In Iowa, I was also a HS wrestling official for 20 years.  I enjoy all sports and I spend my spare time at the YMCA, traveling, and working on our cottage rentals.  I am looking forward to driving with your son/daughter!

Mrs. Amy Russell

As Brad mentioned, we saw a need to serve our local community and offer driver education services for both teenagers and adults.

With a shortage of driver education classroom teachers in Iowa, I became a certified Driver Education Instructor in 2008 for Right-Way Driver Education in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We moved to Wisconsin after raising 10 adopted children from America and Ethiopia. My favorite driver education memories are hearing students share stories of ‘driving with their parents’!

I currently teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and Citizenship classes for adult immigrants at the Northern Door YMCA. I earned my undergraduate degree in Physical Education (K-12 grades/coaching/Recreation Therapy) from UW-Oshkosh as well as a Master’s Degree in Adapted Physical Education from the University of South Florida and a Master’s Degree in TESOL (Teacher of English to Students of Other Languages) from the University of Northern Iowa. After raising 10 children, nothing shocks us!  I enjoy working with students and adults of diverse backgrounds and helping them reach their potential and life goals. I also speak conversational Spanish. I enjoy teaching, hiking, travelling overseas, and renovating old houses. I look forward to meeting your son/daughter!
